Clinical Specialist, Occupational Therapy

Melanie Weller has a Bachelor of Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy from McMaster University as well as a Diploma in Occupational Therapy from Mohawk College.  Since graduating in 1989, she has concentrated her practice in occupational therapy on industrial and corporate rehabilitation.  One of her focuses is on complex accommodation to work issues and has worked with organizations such as Hydro One, BMO Financial Group, Bell Canada and the Government of Ontario (MCSS/MCYS).  Her work has assisted employees in prevention and improving workplace management of disability and return to productivity.  She provides ergonomic services, consultation on difficult accommodation issues and provision of proactive and sustainable stay at work/return to work plans.

Melanie Weller, Senior Occupational Therapist, has over 25 years of experience in providing employers and employees with stay at work and return to work support.  Her ability to manage complex issues and coach managers on effective communication and support strategies has demonstrated sustainable results.  She has provided training to OSS on Absence Management; The Beer store union representatives on Mental Health Training; and Bank of Montreal on accommodations in the workplace.  She has presented to Hydro One, BMO and Bell Canada on Musculoskeletal injury prevention.  Her expertise with return to work, employee health strategies and accommodation can be key in providing solutions to the CCAC.

Melanie has coauthored a chapter on “Ergonomics in Disability Management” in Ergonomics for Therapists, 3rd Edition, 2007.  Melanie’s experience working with complex issues in the workplace brings the knowledge of function and productivity to her customers.  She has provided practical accommodation plans for individuals with mental health concerns, physical disabilities and has transformed complex issues into productive meaningful work solutions.

Melanie Weller is trained to provide the Mental Health First Aid Training Program as developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Melanie Weller has recently been awarded the CAOT 2017 Leadership in Occupational Therapy Award which recognizes her ability to mentor and lead the occupational therapy team in workplace solutions.
